IN HIS FACEBOOK WALL KENNY SCHACHTER SANG HIS PRAISES TO COLOMBIAN ARTIST OSCAR MURILLO. I THINK IT IS A PUMPED UP ONE TO LAUNDER MONEY. SCHACHTER SAID:
‘Blasted into Oscar Murillo’s studio at 4pm this afternoon with Ilona, Adrian, Kai, Gabriel and Sage, along with his wife, uncle and auntie who prepared wrapped and rope-tied tamales with fish, chicken and pork. We had to cobble together a bench from crates and a plank of wood because mi familia es muy grande (and very hambriento). Ilona, mi esposa, was born in Madrid and kids speak passable Spanish thankfully because I of course don’t and his family isn’t overly conversant in English. There was art and a bit of wine, always a good thing for studio visits which by nature I am not a fan of, never was even when only presenting emerging art, not an ideal situation. And the verdict, drum roll please…would I even express it? Holding my opinion (not that anyone should care) till next week’s South London Gallery opening on Thursday. He certainly is a man with a generous sense of hospitality and graciousness.
Disclaimer: image a generic Colombian (where Oscar hails from) tamale internet grab, nowhere near the extraordinary and artful meal we consumed.’
