OUR COLUMNIST MIKE ON JEFF KOONS:
‘Write “Poison” on it in gold and it could be a large perfume bottle. A very relevant object given the stench of the Art Market’s rot, which is indicative of our culture’s choices and values. As we all know, Koons is Hirst but with a smile and better manners. The artist and his/her marketing plan is the art, the object is simply a souvenir that is traded back and forth for profit and/or status.
So critics, who are the ones saying so powerfully that the Emperor has not only clothes, but outrageously expensive ones?’
