OUR COLUMNIST AVILA COMMENTS ON PETER DOIG’S EARLY WORKS IN NYC:

‘In my opinion, the loss of the sense of humor on Peter Doig’s artwork (if we compare this drawings with latter ones) is evident… And at the same time it is quite striking how something so… relatively unnecessary can affect his work… I mean, for example, the drawing with the two statues: Peter was surprised about the aggressivity of the real ones in Rome, and instead reflecting that aggressivity more realistically, he decides to kill one of them, and then make that statue a saint… in Sienna… That is funny…’
