OUR READER JORDI PERDOLA THINKS THAT CONTEMPORARY INTERMEDIAL ‘INSTALLATIONAL’ CONCEPTUALISM IS NOT ART BUT SHOWBIZ:
‘All about art was done in Paris around 1920′s in the Dada movements already. Installations or performances are the base of conceptual art. Conceptual art is about creating visual expression without and OBJECT. If we photograph the installation, then we will have an object ready to buy and sell.
It is just pretentious to call conceptualism THE LATEST form of art. Not anymore in my opinion. We have enough historic examples of everything already. For instance in 1920′s as appointed before (Vive Dada!).
The etherial nature of conceptual art is an invitation for sensitive poetry and reflection
Today we see how Conceptual art fells into a new form of art market. Installations sometimes are not etherial anymore and they are purchased by corporation or museum curators. As an art OBJECT just like a traditional painting, sculpture, etc. breaking the nature of conceptual art.
The reason in ARCO or Art Bassel we see so many references to dirty SEX and extreme VIOLENCE, is not about reflexion anymore. It is more about flashing and striking ideas to get attention and easy publicity.
The etherial poetry does not have an easy impact in the media.
Since art is abaut CONCEPT more than OBJECT, it really does not matter how it shows itself, though a painting, an sculpture, a print, a photograph, a video, an installation, a performance, etc.
Good or bad art does not need a particular style, form, historic time to express itself.’
