It is a well known fact that Peggy Guggenheim used to be a sex obsessed lady who made everybody’s life rather miserable. The French descendantts of Peggy Guggenheim are honouring their neurotic genes by suing the Solomon R.Guggenheim foundation for violating the conditions of the bequest of the American collector, who left her Venetian palace and its art collection to the New York organisation so it could be run as a museum. They claim that the foundation has disregarded Peggy’s intentions by accepting a bequest from the German collectors Rudolph and Hannelore Schulhof, by shown this in the museum and by honouring the couple with inscription of their names.
The descendants also claim the foundation has desecrated Peggy’s burial place in the garden by showing works donated by Patsy and Raymond Nasher nearby and by using the space for fundraising events. The foundation says there were no conditions attached to Peggy Guggenheim’s bequest. A hearing will take place in Paris in May.
