ARTIST HASSAN HASSAN SAYS ABOUT THE PILL ON JEFF KOONS AT THE WHITNEY:
‘… great Pill R. nothing to add there . agreed ! ..the outsider-insider, the acceptance of infantilisation done well, in a real ‘fuck you to society’ from within it and lovingly, very much politically incorrect disguised in expensive suits, air and silicone … while many outsiders outsiders disown the king of clowns out of, perhaps envy, or misrecognition of the character, or just snobbism (I must say i have been in and out of love too) . The adorable aspect of our scary modernity ! ..as Bourdieu puts it in ”Discintion: A Social Critique of the Judgement of Taste” (1984) –an appropriate decade for JK– :primary cognition is misrecognition….’of an order which is also established in the mind.
Life-styles are thus the systematic products of habitus, which, perceived in their mutual relations through the schemes of the habitus, become sign systems that are socially qualified (as ‘distinguished’, ‘vulgar’ etc.) J is lifestyle itself, the superflatness so polished and reflective that invokes by default the depths of the darker aspects of our known illuminated world ! i see it now with fresher eyes … popeye eyes . best !’
