‘I don’t think Koons can be “bullied” by critics at this point. At any rate, I wouldn’t spend too much time worrying about it. Also, I don’t think you can seriously review a Koons show without using one essential word: banality. One might even extend it to “banality of evil”. And intentionality in this regard becomes moot.
Also, if Koons work is ultimately “reflective”, it reflects something ultimately and perhaps irreversibly corrupt in art and society. Whether he should be praised or damned for ensnaring us in this reflection is another story, although his complicity in its machinations seems to be pretty obvious…
In fact, you might call Koons’ work “the social realism of advanced capitalism”. lol
