THE SELF PORTRAIT’S SELFIE BY ANGELA LYN
Angela Lyn says: ‘I enjoyed reading the post on Katz today’
And, then, continuous: ‘How different positions can be! Last Saturday, I ventured to do a self portrait on a canvas whose deep blue background was waiting to be inhabited. I have not painted myself in quite a long time. I started at 5pm, as if it was something that needed to be done after hours, undisturbed, in privacy. It felt like I was crossing some sort of line of taboo, working so close and engaged. Five hours into the painting I decided to do a selfie of the self portrait: I found the painting to be almost more real than I am. Reading your post on Katz this morning, brought the situation into an even clearer context. When I saw the picture you took, I had to put it next to my own. In one there is a conversation: in the other there is none. Life pushes through ultimately. The trend of anonymity may well pale at some point when the boredom has exhausted it’s potential. What then? That is worth thinking about’.
